Dependence on Him

Dear NRHC Family,

One of the ways we actively function as a faith family is that we pray with and for one another-- we pray for specific needs, but we also pray for the big picture of what God wants to do in and through NRHC. As people who have been saved by grace alone, we know that we can do nothing apart from Christ, and prayer is one of the primary ways that we reveal our dependence on Him. Jesus prayed for the Church in John 17 and below is an excerpt from verses 13-23:

“Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”John 17:13-23

At the beginning of this year, I outlined some ways that our Advisory Team and staff are praying for the people of NRHC in 2017. Over the past few months we have come back to these several times and encouraged our entire faith family to join with us in these intentional prayers. Notice how several of our prayers closely echo the prayers of Jesus:

  • that we would have a deep hunger for the Bible, God's Word to us
  • that we would continue to protect the unity we've already been given in Christ
  • that we would be unleashed outside of 2562 Mt. Gallant Rd. to share and live out
  • the good news of the Gospel to the world around us: our family, neighbors, co- workers, friends, and those in need in our community
  • that we would see more people come to faith through the power and truth of the Gospel
  • that we would be a people so countercultural that the world sees Christ through us

I hope you'll commit to joining us in prayer as we wholeheartedly seek and rely on the Lord. Only by His grace will we move forward and give Him the glory that only He deserves!

One Life at a Time,
Andrew
