Fervent Prayer

Guest post by Matthew Cavin

Dear NRHC Family,

This has no doubt been a horrific week for so many in Texas as Hurricane Harvey brought catastrophic flooding and has reoriented countless lives. Moments like this cause us to ask how can we help those who are impacted by the devastation. As we have explored many possibilities of how to respond as a faith family we have been instructed that right now is not the best time to send any physical supplies. We will wait until the mobile response units are firmly established before we see how we could be most helpful.

We know that many of you are interested in donating monetarily to the relief efforts. Though there are many reliable and trustworthy organizations that will have a significant impact, if you are looking for someone to steward your donations well, please consider giving through the Southern Baptist Convention. They not only meet physical needs but also seek to meet the spiritual needs of the victims. They have already deployed teams and will continue to do so for many, many months. As of Tuesday, crews and supplies were in place to serve 350,000 meals to flood victims each and every day! Through them, your donations will be used for the glory of God. You can give to the SBC Disaster Relief here.

And finally, we obviously need to be praying for everyone involved – victims, first responders, and volunteers. This event was not a surprise to God, and He is going to use it ultimately for His glory. Many lives will be impacted by the gospel during the coming months. We need to be in fervent prayer that there would be a powerful move of the Spirit in Texas and beyond. Thank you for your commitment to the gospel and the Kingdom of God!

One Life at a Time,
Matthew
