why we give

God is generous, and He calls us to be as well.  What we do with what God has given us shows the world where our hearts are and helps proclaim the gospel. We want to glorify God with every area of our lives, and that includes what we do with our finances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do We Give?
God owns everything. He is the source of all life and creation, and it's all His. Psalm 14:1 says, “The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord.” As the one who owns everything, God gives us the privilege of managing what is His. He calls us to be wise, generous stewards. We are to invest in that which is most important - His work in this world - and to do so generously. As our Heavenly Father has been generous in giving us His Son, He has called us to be generous with what He allows us to manage.
How Much Should I Give?
The Biblical starting point for generosity is the tithe, or a tenth, of what God has entrusted to us. This standard was established long before Jesus walked on the earth. During His public ministry, Jesus raised the bar from simply tithing to generosity. In other words Jesus said that tithing is not the goal: generosity is. Generosity involves giving to a local church, but it surely involves so much more. God has given us His resources so that we can be generous to others, both through the ministries of our local church and in our personal ministries.
